FAQ's

If you have a question regarding a course or workshop, take a look at the frequently asked questions listed below. If you can’t find the information you need please contact Martin using the Contact section of this site.

What do I need to bring?

Just yourself and ideas for future projects, some students like to bring their own tool boxes and a work apron but these are not compulsory.



Do I need to provide my own tools?

No, all tools are provided by Martin, but if you want to bring your own tools you are more than welcome.



Do I need to buy materials for the course?

If you are a beginner all materials are provided by Martin for the first two projects. Once you move onto doing your own work you will be expected to provide your own glass, you can however buy lead and solder from Martin.



What clothes should I wear?

It is recommended that you wear old clothes. It is also mandatory that you wear sensible shoes (no open toed shoes) when attending the workshop.



How many people will be in the class?

All weekly classes are run with a maximum of twelve students and one day workshops are run with a maximum of ten students, ensuring that each student receives individual attention. Each student has use of a workbench with all the tools and equipment they will need while taking part in the course.



I am pregnant is this a problem?

The courses and workshops involve working with lead and solder, for safety reasons Martin recommends that pregnant women do not attend.



Is there disabled access to the studio?

Yes, access is not an issue.



I have a disability / special needs will this be a problem?

If you do have a disability or special needs please contact Martin to discuss how he can structure the course to suit your needs. Martin will always endeavour to cater for anybody with a special needs who wishes to enrol on one of his studio courses.



How do I get to the studio?

Martin’s studio is located at the Learning Centre at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet. For more detailed information see the Contact section of this site.



How do I gain access the studio?

When you arrive at Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet you will see the Learning Centre on your left as you enter the site, Martin’s studio can be accessed from the rear of the building by the car park.



Where can I park?

There is a car park to the rear of the learning centre close to the entrance to Martin’s studio.



What public transport is available?

The buses serving Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet are: 97 / 98 Dore / Totley

By Rail: The nearest station is Dore located 0.5miles along Abbeydale Road South




What can I make?

Once you have mastered the basics you can make whatever you want. Martin will work with you on a one-to-one basis to plan / build and finish your project.



Can I leave my work / materials at the studio in-between classes?

Yes, each student has a designated shelf where they can store their work and any materials between classes.



How can I pay for the course?

Once Martin as confirmed your place on a course or workshop he will ask for payment, you can pay via one of the following methods:

Cheque (Please send your cheque to Martin’s home and make it payable to Martin McAssey Glass).

BAC’s payment / Bank transfer (Please contact Martin for BAC’s details).

PayPal (You can purchase gift certificates to the value of your payment via Martin’s website).

Card payments (Payments by Visa / Mastercard or American Express can be made at the studio, please note that card payments over the phone are not possible).



I have booked and paid for a course / one day workshop but can no longer attend.

Martin will always try to accommodate you if you can no longer attend a course or workshop, whenever possible Martin will try to transfer you to another course or workshop of your choice, (please note this is subject to availability). In the event of a cancellations two weeks or less before a course or workshop no alternative date can be offered.

In the event that you can’t be transferred to another course and workshop Martin offers the following refund policy:

For cancellations up to 4 weeks before the course or workshop a 90% refund will be given.
For cancelations 4 weeks - 1 week before the course or workshop a 50% refund will be given.
For cancelations seven days or less prior to the course or workshop no refund will be given.

Cancellation of any course or workshop incurs a 10% admin fee of the total cost of the course or workshop. In order to keep the cost of courses and workshops low for all, Martin can make no exceptions to this policy.



Can I book more than one course?

Yes, provided there are available places on the courses or workshops you can book as many places as you wish.



Can I book a one-to-one lesson?

Yes, contact Martin about availability and the cost of a one-to-one lesson.

Can children book a place on a course or workshop?

For health and safety reasons Martin does not run courses for anybody under the age of 18.

Martin will teach 16 -18 year old but they must be accompanied by an adult.
